AIR FORCE ONE/KYIV (Worthy News) – U.S. President Donald J. Trump said he would give Russia 10 more days “from today” to reach a truce with Ukraine, after scores of people were reported killed and injured overnight in massive Russian air strikes on numerous Ukrainian cities and villages.

“10 days from today,” Trump told reporters while formally announcing a new deadline to pressure Russian President Vladimir Putin to end Europe’s bloodiest conflict since World War II.

Trump spoke aboard Air Force One on Tuesday as he returned to Washington from a five-day visit to Scotland, clearly frustrated about the ongoing clashes.

The U.S. leader had said he would shorten the timeline for Putin with the threat of potential economic penalties on Moscow if it did not move to halt the fighting.

However, Trump had not specified the exact deadline or when the clock would start. On July 14, the US president initially announced a 50-day deadline on Russia, which would have fallen on September 2.

However, with the death toll mounting, Trump seemed to be running out of patience. The president has suggested that the sanctions could include massive tariffs on countries maintaining business relations with Moscow.

He spoke after Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed Tuesday that at least 22 people were killed, and 85 injured in attacks targeting 73 Ukrainian cities and villages overnight.

LOSING HOPE

He said the drone and missile strikes happened just hours after “everyone once again felt hope for an end to the killings.”

Zelenskyy said the attacks included a strike on a city hospital in Kamianske, which killed three, including a pregnant 23-year-old woman, and a “deliberate” attack on a civilian penal colony in Zaporizhia.

Zelenskyy said: “Every murder of our people by the Russians; every Russian strike, when there could have been a ceasefire long ago, if Russia had not refused – all this shows that Moscow deserves very tough, truly painful, and therefore fair and effective sanctions pressure.”

He stressed that “They must be forced to stop the killings and make peace.”

He thanked U.S. President Trump and other leaders putting pressure on Russia, but added:

“Peace is possible, but only when Russia stops the war that it started and stops tormenting our people.”

More than 1 million people are believed to have been killed and injured since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February. 2022.

Last week, Trump suggested he could impose tariffs of up to 100 percent on Russia’s trading partners if Putin doesn’t halt hostilities. However, critics note that Russia’s primary trading partners are China and India—two nations with whom the Trump administration is engaged in sensitive negotiations over tariffs and market access.
