(Worthy News) – Hezbollah issued a scathing rebuke on Wednesday against the Lebanese government’s decision to move forward with a plan to disarm all resistance groups, including the Iranian-backed Shiite terrorist organization, calling the move a “grave sin” and a capitulation to American and Israeli pressure.

The criticism came just one day after Lebanon’s Prime Minister Nawaf Salam’s cabinet approved a controversial initiative directing the Lebanese army to draft a framework to ensure only state institutions would possess weapons by year’s end.

In its official statement, Hezbollah accused Prime Minister Salam of acting under the influence of U.S. envoy Amos Hochstein and claimed the decision was effectively dictated by American businessman Tom Barrack, labeling the process a “strategy of surrender” and a “flagrant violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty.”

“The government has chosen to strip Lebanon of its weapons in the face of the Israeli enemy,” the group declared. “This decision fully achieves Israeli interests while weakening Lebanon under the continued aggression of the Israeli-American alliance.”

Hezbollah emphasized that it would not recognize the legitimacy of the resolution, vowing to treat the plan as “null and void.” While leaving the door open to dialogue, the group insisted that any negotiations must begin with Israel withdrawing from all “occupied Lebanese territory” and releasing Lebanese prisoners.

Despite its rejection, Hezbollah indicated a limited willingness to engage in talks over its weapons under certain conditions. “The government should first focus on liberating the areas in southern Lebanon still under occupation and securing the freedom of Lebanese detainees held by Israel,” the group stated.

The government’s move marks the most serious step to date in attempting to curtail Hezbollah’s military role in Lebanon—a role that has drawn repeated international condemnation, especially amid ongoing border tensions with Israel. Prime Minister Salam has directed the army to submit its detailed disarmament plan by the end of the month for cabinet approval.

Hezbollah, a designated terrorist organization by the United States and several Western nations, is also a dominant political party in Lebanon with a vast network of social services and support among the country’s Shiite population. Its leader recently threatened to escalate missile attacks against Israel if Israeli military operations intensify.

The Lebanese government’s decision sets the stage for an intensifying internal showdown over Hezbollah’s armed status, as regional tensions continue to simmer and international actors watch closely.
