Russia’s Putin Thanks Trump for ‘Trustworthy Tone’ on Ending War

ANCHORAGE, USA (Worthy News) – Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday thanked U.S. President Donald J. Trump for the “trustworthy tone of our conversation” on ending the war in Ukraine and invited Trump to Moscow.
Speaking to reporters in Anchorage, Alaska, before a backdrop reading “pursuing peace,” Putin said the two leaders reached an agreement, though he offered no specifics.
“I expect that today’s agreements will be the starting point not only for the solution of the Ukrainian issue, but also will help us bring back businesslike and pragmatic relations between Russia and the U.S.,” he stressed.
Putin recalled his last contact with the previous U.S. administration in 2022, saying he had warned against “bringing the situation to the point of no return when it would come to hostilities.”
He added, “Today, when President Trump says that if he were the president back then, ‘there would be no war,’ I’m quite sure that it would indeed be so. I can confirm that.”
Ahead of the summit, Putin visited a World War II memorial in Alaska honoring U.S. and Soviet soldiers, calling it “a reminder of what our nations can achieve when we stand together,” in what observers viewed as a symbolic gesture amid strained relations.
‘TRUSTWORTHY CONTACT’
Putin said he and Trump had built “a very good businesslike and trustworthy contact” and had “every reason to believe that moving down this path, we can come, and the sooner the better, to the end of the conflict in Ukraine.”
Trump agreed: “I believe we had a very productive meeting. There were many, many points that we agreed on… a couple of big ones we haven’t quite got there, but we’ve made some headway.”
Often called the “Dealmaker-in-Chief” by supporters, Trump cautioned, “There’s no deal until there’s a deal,” adding that he would call officials of the NATO military alliance, European leaders, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss the next steps. “It’s ultimately up to them,” he said, referring to Putin and Zelenskyy.
The leaders’ arrival featured a flyover of a B-2 stealth bomber flanked by four F-35 fighter jets.
After the ceremony, Trump and Putin shared a ride in the U.S. presidential armored limousine—known as “The Beast”—in what many saw as a powerful symbol of attempted reconciliation between two adversarial powers.
Footage released by top Trump advisor Dan Scavino showed Putin’s view from inside the limousine as it passed a row of F-35 Lightning II jets built by American defense contractor Lockheed Martin.
‘NEXT TIME IN MOSCOW’
As the summit wrapped up, Putin turned to Trump and said, “Next time in Moscow.”
Trump laughed and replied, “Oh, that’s an interesting one. I don’t know, I’ll get a little heat on that one, but I, uh, I could see it possibly happening.”
The exchange drew smiles from both leaders, who then said their thanks and walked off the stage together, leaving a group of bewildered reporters calling out unanswered questions behind them.
The war broke out with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
It is believed to have killed and injured more than a million people on both sides, adding to frustration with the administration of Trump, who is seeking the Nobel Peace Prize.
