Study Finds Only Half of Congress Votes in Line With Biblical Principles

(Worthy News) – A new study has found that just half of U.S. lawmakers vote in alignment with biblical principles, with Republicans dominating the top rankings and Democrats overwhelmingly at the bottom.
According to the Biblical Business Index, a project of the Christian Employers Alliance, five Republicans voted in line with biblical principles 100% of the time. By contrast, 16 Democrats scored 0%, never voting in support of biblical values as defined by the index.
The tool was designed to help Christian leaders evaluate lawmakers’ decisions through the lens of Scripture. “Our faith is the foundation of how we live and lead, and lawmakers need that same compass as they face complex policies,” explained CEA President Margaret Iuculano. “That’s why we launched the Biblical Business Index — a first-of-its-kind tool bringing together theologians and policy experts to connect Scripture with today’s legislation.”
Among those scoring a perfect 100% were Rep. Elijah Crane (R-Ariz.), Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), former Rep. Matt Rosendale (R-Mont.), former Rep. Robert Good (R-Va.), and Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah). On the other end of the spectrum, dozens of Democrats scored near zero, with some only voting in line with biblical principles between 0.5% and 0.53% of the time.
Republicans filled the first 269 spots on the list before the first Democrat appeared: Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas) at No. 270. Just ahead of him was Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), the first Republican to fall below the 50% threshold, scoring 49.25%.
“Even when the issue is something like regulations, biblical truth provides guidance to discern what upholds justice, freedom, and human dignity,” Iuculano said, stressing that the index was built to highlight how Scripture applies to today’s most pressing policy debates.
