IDF Chief of Staff Leads High-Level Washington Meetings Amid Rising Iran Tensions

(Worthy News) – The Israel Defense Forces’ Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir held a discreet weekend visit to Washington, meeting senior U.S. defense officials amid rising tensions with Iran and uncertainty over a possible American strike.
Zamir met behind closed doors at the Pentagon with Dan Caine, chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, to review operational options, intelligence assessments, and their potential regional implications. Israeli officials said Zamir presented Israel’s security interests but acknowledged that only President Donald Trump will ultimately decide whether the United States strikes Iran.
The chief of staff was accompanied by senior IDF officers, including the incoming Israeli Air Force commander, reflecting the operational weight of the discussions. With senior political coordinators currently sidelined, Zamir has become the primary military liaison between Jerusalem and Washington, elevating the significance of the trip.
The visit followed a preparatory trip by Maj. Gen. Shlomi Binder, head of IDF Military Intelligence, and coincided with travel to Israel by Brad Cooper, commander of United States Central Command. Israeli and U.S. officials discussed intelligence sharing, coordination mechanisms, and lessons from recent confrontations with Iran.
According to The Jerusalem Post, a tight operational axis has formed between the IDF, CENTCOM, and the U.S. Joint Chiefs, featuring frequent high-level engagement. The talks came as Washington boosts its regional military presence, including the deployment of the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group.
At the same time, The Wall Street Journal reported that U.S. forces may not yet be ready to deliver the decisive strike Trump has requested, citing air defense shortages for regional allies.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei warned Sunday that any U.S. attack would trigger a wider regional war, raising the stakes as Israel and the United States quietly prepare for multiple scenarios.
