(Worthy News) – President Donald Trump said Thursday that Iran has entered negotiations with the United States because it fears potential military action, as both sides prepare for high-stakes talks expected to take place in Oman. Speaking at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, Trump said Tehran “doesn’t want us to hit them,” adding that a U.S. naval fleet is in the region as pressure increases.

The comments came amid reports that Iran has shown willingness to discuss not only its nuclear program but also its ballistic missile development and support for regional proxy groups—issues Washington has insisted must be part of any meaningful agreement. Secretary of State Marco Rubio reiterated that negotiations must address missile capabilities, Tehran’s backing of militant organizations, and human rights concerns alongside nuclear restrictions.

Diplomatic sources say mediators from Qatar, Turkey, and Egypt have circulated a preliminary framework calling for a temporary freeze on uranium enrichment, the transfer of highly enriched uranium to a third country, and limits on missile activity, though it remains unclear whether either side will accept the proposal. Conflicting reports also persist over whether the talks will be direct or conducted indirectly through intermediaries.

Trump warned that Iran’s leadership “should be very worried” if diplomacy fails, emphasizing that the United States seeks peace but is prepared to act if necessary. The remarks coincided with reports of expanded U.S. military deployments across the Middle East, including additional aircraft, naval assets, and communications platforms positioned to support potential operations.

During the same speech, Trump also addressed broader regional security issues, insisting that Hamas must disarm “or they won’t be around anymore,” while reiterating that lasting peace in the Middle East would come “through strength.” Negotiators from both countries are expected to meet Friday in Oman in an effort to establish a framework for further talks.
