Christian Killed In Faisalabad Stabbing As Minority Safety Concerns Grow

FAISALABAD, PAKISTAN (Worthy News) – Christians in Pakistan’s industrial city of Faisalabad remained on edge Thursday after a Christian railway employee was killed and two relatives seriously injured in an alleged nighttime stabbing attack by a Muslim suspect that community leaders say has renewed concerns about minority safety in the Islamic nation.

The victim, identified as Imran Masih, reportedly suffered multiple stab wounds to the chest and abdomen and died at the scene following the attack in Faisalabad’s Railway Colony on May 30.

Two of his nephews were also injured while attempting to intervene and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. One remained in critical condition after suffering serious injuries to his arm and abdomen, according to information provided to Worthy News by Sardar Mushtaq Gill, founder of the advocacy group LEAD Ministries.

Police identified the suspect as Muhammad Kashif and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing. Authorities had not announced a motive.

FAMILY ALLEGES LOAN DISPUTE

According to family members, Kashif had been a longtime friend of Imran Masih, and the two reportedly shared a close friendship.

Relatives alleged that Masih, an employee of Pakistan Railways and the sole breadwinner of his family, had previously lent Kashif about 800,000 Pakistani rupees ($2,800). They believe a dispute over repayment may have contributed to the violence, although investigators have not confirmed those claims.

LEAD Ministries said the suspect allegedly arrived at the residence carrying a wooden ladder, climbed over a boundary wall under the cover of darkness, and entered the family’s property. A photograph obtained by Worthy News from the scene appeared to show a ladder positioned against the wall, consistent with that account.

Masih was reportedly asleep when he was attacked. When his nephews rushed to help him, they were also allegedly stabbed and injured.

CHRISTIAN LEADERS REACT

The victim’s family has called for a thorough, impartial, and transparent investigation, urging authorities to ensure justice is served.

Pastor Imran Amanat, a leader of LEAD Ministries, condemned the attack and called for accountability.

“We appeal to the government and law enforcement agencies to thoroughly investigate this heartbreaking incident and bring those responsible to justice without delay,” he said.

Amanat also urged Christians and other faith communities to pray for the bereaved family, healing for the injured, and peace for all those affected by the tragedy.

Gill told Worthy News that the killing has heightened fears among Christians in Faisalabad, where many believers already feel vulnerable due to discrimination and periodic violence.

MINORITY CONCERNS

Human rights advocates have long expressed concern about the treatment of religious minorities in Pakistan, particularly Christians and Hindus, who often face discrimination, social exclusion, forced conversions, false blasphemy accusations, and episodes of violence.

While authorities have not indicated that religion played a role in the Faisalabad attack, Christian leaders say the incident has reinforced longstanding fears among believers who remain a small minority in the predominantly Muslim nation.

Pakistan is ranked among the world’s most difficult places to be a Christian. In the 2026 World Watch List compiled by advocacy group Open Doors, Pakistan ranked eighth worldwide due to what it describes as extremist violence, misuse of blasphemy laws, discrimination against Christians, and pressure on converts from Islam.

Police said investigations were continuing and that additional details would be released as the inquiry progresses.
