JERUSALEM (Worthy News) – Israel will hold its next national election on October 27, 2026, after coalition leaders confirmed Sunday that the vote will proceed on the date originally established by law.

Knesset Legal Adviser Sagit Afik said the current parliament will conclude its term rather than being dissolved for an earlier election. The Knesset session is expected to end on July 17, formally launching the national campaign.

“The current Knesset will complete its full term,” Afik told the Knesset House Committee. “The election date remains as established by law — October 27.”

The decision means Israel will hold a regularly scheduled election for the first time since 1988. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, formed on December 29, 2022, is also set to become the first Israeli government since 1973 to complete a full term in office.

The announcement follows months of uncertainty and coalition disputes that raised the possibility of an early election. With the parliamentary session nearing its end, coalition lawmakers are now seeking to advance several major bills before routine legislative activity comes to a halt.

Political maneuvering is also intensifying across Israel as parties consider alliances, recruit candidates and prepare for what is expected to be a closely contested campaign.

The election will be Israel’s first national vote since the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks and the wars that followed in Gaza, Lebanon and Iran. Netanyahu’s Likud party is expected to face a serious challenge from former military chief Gadi Eisenkot and other opposition leaders seeking to unseat Israel’s longest-serving prime minister.

Israeli security officials have also warned that hostile foreign and domestic actors may attempt to interfere in the campaign, placing additional pressure on election authorities to protect the integrity of the vote.
