WASHINGTON D.C. (Worthy News)-- Thirty-five towns worldwide have launched new Sunday Assemblies, according to The Christian Post.

British comedian Sanderson Jones -- one of the founders of the Assemblies that began in London -- said there are many benefits in attending church, yet he rejects the worship of God.

"So many things that I like about church, such as the community, and the singing, but there was one thing I didn't like and that was God.

"If you think about church, there's very little that's bad. It's singing awesome songs, hearing interesting talks, thinking about improving yourself and helping other people and doing that in a community with wonderful relationships. What part of that is not to like?"

Apparently the part about God, at least according to Jones and his kindred spirits

Congregations of the Assemblies -- also known as the Atheist Church -- average from 60 to 80 members.

  1. Join a Golf Club or other sporting club. Don't want God but still want to be a Church ! What nonsense is this. Before it's too late I thoroughly recommend they investigate the facts about the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. They will be amazed at the amount of facts supporting a living Jesus by all, antagonists, Muslims, Jews, historical literature etc. The amount of positive proof is overwhelming ! Strip all your beliefs, myths, etc about Christianity down to the bare bones of the cross. Jesus was real. That's all you need to know, the rest will follow provided you believe sincerely.

  2. These are intellectually honest a-theists, who openly admit that a-theism is a religion. Based on blind faith, no less. I pray that they will somehow find God.

      • Hi Lewis! Actually, a-theism is the belief that there is no God. Agnosticism is technically neutral, not a-theism. I am using the philosophical terms, not the common Webster Dictionary definition. Here is a good short discussion of this important issue, with some interesting comments concerning the burden of proof that a-theists share in the debate: http://winteryknight.wordpress.com/2013/04/23/does-atheism-mean-a-lack-of-belief-in-god-2/

Consequently, I stand by my earlier comment that a-theism IS a religion, since it takes a tremendous amount of blind faith to believe that:

        1. The universe miraculously popped into existence out of nothing uncaused by anything.
        2. Life magically sprang forth from non-life when lightning hit some mud.
        3. Morals and minds evolved from molecules through monkeys.

Thanks for your reply, Lewis. God bless you!

    • "Why don't they just go to any mainline denomination church and they would get the same thing!"
Unfortunately you are right in saying that. Still they do mention God every now and then!
The shadow of truth cast from their beginnings is still seen every now and then!
