Church in Sudan Strives to Block Demolition

By Joseph DeCaro, Worthy News Correspondent

KHARTOUM (Worthy News)– Hundreds of Christians in North Khartoum blocked repeated attempts by government authorities to destroy all the buildings inside their church compound last week, according to Morning Star News.

After a bulldozer backed by police had knocked down a wall of Khartoum’s Bahri Evangelical Church, the congregation formed a human barrier that faced down any further destruction.

“Kill us before destroying our church property,” Christians replied to the police. “We are ready to die, or to be arrested.”

The demolition was sanctioned by a court order demanding that church leaders surrender their property to Muslim businessman Khalid Mustafa. Apparently the Sudanese government secretly sold the property to Mustafa as part of its ongoing campaign to eliminate Christianity from the country.

The government had created a puppet committee to the sell the church for business purposes, Pastor Daud Fadul told Morning Star News. In response, church leaders filed a court complaint, but were told that they would have to wait until December to have their grievances heard.
