Muslims Seize Last Remnant of Church

By Joseph DeCaro, Worthy News Correspondent

KHARTOUM (Worthy News)– On behalf of Muslim investors, the Sudanese government used riot police to forcefully seize the remaining property of Khartoum Bahri Evangelical Church in Khartoum North, according to Morning Star News.

The hostile take-over comes less than a month after the government seized another Christian compound in Khartoum.

The persecution of Christians in Sudan has sharply increased since the secession of South Sudan in 2011; in response, Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir promised to adopt a strict version of sharia and recognize only Islamic culture and the Arabic language. In 2012, Sudan expelled foreign Christians and bulldozed their church buildings on the pretext that they belonged to exiled South Sudanese.

On account of its treatment of Christians and other human rights violations, Sudan has been designated a Country of Particular Concern by the U.S. State Department since 1999.
