Oil Tanker

(Worthy News) – The US on Wednesday offered the captain of an Iranian oil tanker millions of dollars to dock the ship in a port where it could be seized.

In an email exchange with the captain of the Adrian Darya 1, formerly the Grace 1 that was impounded by British Royal Marines in July, US special envoy for Iran Brian Hook sought to persuade the crew to turn over cargo America says is bound for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps in Syria.

“With this money you can have any life you wish and be well-off in old age,” wrote Hook according to AFP. “If you choose not to take this easy path, life will be much harder for you.”

The action is US state department protocol under its “Rewards for Justice” program, through which it can offer anyone with information on terrorist networks abroad a cash reward of up to $5 million, but Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif nevertheless accused the US of “blackmail” and “piracy.”

Ship tracking data from Refinitiv showed the ship’s last known location as somewhere between Cyprus and Syria before it turned off its transponder Tuesday.
