Ignored genocide: Most prominent Christian leader in Nigeria executed by ISIS

by Jordan Hilger, Worthy News Correspondent

(Worthy News) – The leader of the Christian Association of Nigeria, who has often spoken on behalf of Christians taken captive and slain at the hands of Muslims in the unfolding Nigerian genocide, was himself executed by ISIS-linked terrorist group Boko Haram on Tuesday after enduring almost a month of captivity.

The Abubakar Shekau faction of the West African branch of ISIS took Reverend Lawan Andimi from Michika town on Jan. 2 and dragged him into a vehicle, disappearing into the night after plundering the town and forcing residents to flee.

“If the opportunity [for my release] has not been granted, maybe it is the will of God,” Andimi had said earlier during his captivity while petitioning the local state government, president of Nigeria, and church leaders to secure his freedom. “Don’t cry, don’t worry, but thank God for everything.”

The Humanitarian Aid Relief Trust has concluded that an astonishing 6,000 Christians have been killed in Nigeria since 2015, while Jubilee Campaign has recently contended at the United Nations that the Nigerian situation constitutes genocide, the Nigerian House of Representatives already having said as much in 2018.
