(Worthy News) – Asia Bibi has released a new book detailing her nearly ten-year-long blasphemy trial, and is now hoping to gain political asylum in France after her stay in Canada.
The Pakistani Christian mother was accused of insulting the prophet Muhammad during a dispute with a Muslim coworker over a cup of water in 2010 and was summarily sentenced to death, but was acquitted in October 2018 and allowed to reunite with her daughters in Canada last year.
“Pakistan is my country,” Bibi writes in her new book. “I love my country but I am in exile forever.”
Pakistan is fifth on Open Doors USA’s World Watch List for the persecution of Christians, mainly for “blasphemy laws” that forbid insult to the prophet Muhammad on penalty of death and offense to a Quran that carries a life sentence.
