Texas Police Pray For Coronavirus-Suffering Officer

(Worthy News) – Police in the U.S. State of Texas have been praying for a fellow officer who was rushed to an intensive care unit with the new coronavirus COVID-19.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office dedicated an emotionally-charged prayer service in a local parking lot to Sgt. Raymond Scholwinski, working in the Precinct 2 area in Humble city. “Father, we come to You now, and I come to you in the name of Jesus, and I ask you, Father, to touch this family,” said Lt. Shannon Bowdoin, a chaplain for the sheriff’s office. “I especially ask you right now, Lord, to reach down into that hospital room where Ray is,” he prayed.

“And by Your sovereign strength, power and authority, will You touch every cell of his body?” The chaplain also asked for peace and comfort for the family and department as he laid his hand on one son. Two of Scholwinski’s sons attended the vigil.

The department posted photos and video footage of the gathering on social media. “Raymond Scholwinski is that special person that you rarely meet. There’s not a single person that would ever say anything negative about Raymond,” Capt. Mike Koteras told local television station KPRC.

“He and his wife and kids are just a wonderful family, and we’re praying, and we’re asking for prayers from everybody.”

The prayers came as many families in the United States plunged into mourning this Easter season. On Saturday, the U.S. surpassed Italy as the country with the most coronavirus-linked fatalities. The U.S. recorded more than 20,000 related deaths, figure experts called “an underestimation.”

The virus, known as COVID-19, has also infected first responders such as police and health workers. For most people, the virus causes symptoms such as fever and cough. But for especially the elderly and people with underlying conditions, it can cause pneumonia and, in severe cases, death.
