Israeli drone reportedly attacks Hezbollah vehicle in Syria

(Worthy News) – Lebanese media have reported that on Wednesday afternoon an Israeli drone attacked a vehicle belonging to the Iran-backed Lebanese terrorist group, Hezbollah. The vehicle was in Syria, close to the border with Lebanon. There were no reports of any injuries from the strike.

Israel has made no comment on the incident and has not taken responsibility for the strike. However, i24 News reports, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said: “the Israeli aircraft targeted a vehicle near the Jdaidit Yabous crossing.”

Also reporting on who may have carried out the strike, the Defense Post quotes a Hezbollah source as saying: “An Israeli drone first struck near a car transporting Hezbollah members. The passengers got out before it was then directly hit in a second strike.”

Syrian state news reported that a “civilian car” had been damaged, but did not say who had carried out the strike. According to Lebanese reports, the vehicle is believed to have been a Jeep Cherokee.

Israel does not usually publically confirm airstrikes like the one conducted on Wednesday, but has stated its commitment to preventing Iran from establishing itself in Syria militarily. Last week, i24 News reported, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) accused Syrian dictator Assad’s army of helping Hezbollah to gain a permanent foothold on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights: Hezbollah has supported the Assad regime in Syria since 2013.
