(Worthy News) – Disney has introduced a leading animated LGBTQ character, who also dabbles in witchcraft, CBN News reports. The new leading character is Luz Noceda, who appears in Disney Channel’s “The Owl House” series. Disney has presented LGBTQ characters before, but they previously had relatively minor roles.

Devised by series creator Dana Terrace, the new character Luz is a 14-year-old girl exploring the idea of a relationship with another girl. Terrace claims to be bisexual herself and was reportedly intrigued by the idea of having “queer kids” in the series.

“I was very open about my intention to put queer kids in the main cast. I’m a horrible liar so sneaking it in would’ve been hard,” Terrace told NBC News. “I was told by certain Disney leadership that I could not represent any form of bi or gay relationship on the channel. Luckily my stubbornness paid off, and now I am very supported by current Disney leadership,” Terrace added.

In a tweet, Terrace also said: “Representation matters! Always fight to make what YOU want to see!”

The “Owl House” also features witchcraft, seen in the episodes “Enchanting Grom Fright” and “Wing It Like Witches.” These episodes included a developing relationship between Luz and a female character called Amity Blight.
