Netanyahu and Putin discuss security and coronavirus

(Worthy News) – Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke on the phone Wednesday to discuss cooperation in fighting COVID-19 as well as security matters in relation to Iran and Syria, World Israel News (WIN) reports.
Netanyahu and Putin have worked closely in recent years as both have interests in Syria: Putin has sent Russian troops to the country in support of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad while Israel seeks to prevent Assad’s ally Iran from entrenching itself next to Israel in Syria.
As WIN reports, Putin and Netanyahu have increased coordination between their two countries, to ensure no dangerous misunderstanding arises between their two countries as they pursue their respective aims in Syria.
In September 2018, a Russian military plane was accidentally shot down by Syrian anti-aircraft, after Israel had attacked a position in Syria: although this is rarely acknowledged, Israel has repeatedly carried out airstrikes against Iran-backed targets in the war-torn country. Coordination between Israel and Russia was increased after this incident.
In regard to coronavirus, Netanyahu told local authority leaders that he had talked with Putin about how to obtain quick-result COVID-19 tests, WIN reports. “We are in touch with Putin and the American vice president to get very fast tests,” Netanyahu said.
