(Worthy News) – A renowned Iranian-American political scientist and Harvard-educated scholar has warned that the United Nations is turning a blind eye to Iranian terrorist “sleeper cells” in foreign countries and is therefore complicit in Iran’s malignant conduct around the world. Writing for the Gatestone Institute on October 26, head of the International American Council Majid Rafizadeh suggests the US should stop giving billions of dollars to the UN without getting what it pays for from the organization.

“Iranian terrorist ‘sleeper cells’ are reportedly continuing to operate in the US, according to intelligence officials and security experts,” Rafizadeh notes. “The Iranian regime is also continuing to target Latin American countries, where it dispatches its agents (specifically from Hezbollah), creates terror cells, and trains militias.” Rafizadeh points out that several Iranian terrorist cells have been discovered in foreign countries this year.

“On September 29, 2020, Saudi Arabia broke up an Iranian-trained cell, arrested 10 people and seized weapons and explosives,” Rafizdeh reported. “These included “electrical components used in the making of explosives such as capacitors, transformers and resistors, gunpowder, chemicals, Kalashnikov rifles, guns, sniper rifle, live ammunition, machine guns, blades, military clothes, and wireless communication devices.” According to a statement by Saudi Arabia’s Presidency of State Security, the cell was trained by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and had received “military and field training, including on how to make explosives.”

Giving another example of Iranian terrorist activity revealed this year, Rafizdeh reports that Bahrain’s Ministry of the Interior said last month that it had foiled an attack on several security and public structures in the country by an IRGC-backed group called the “Qassem Soleimani Brigade.”

In its refusal to investigate Iranian terrorist activity or to condemn the mullahs, “the United Nations is complicit in Iran’s malign behavior across the globe,” Rafizdeh asserts. “Perhaps it is time for the US to ‘pay for what it wants’ from the UN, rather than automatically handing it billions, more than a fifth if its budget, every year — and to make sure America gets what it pays for,” he suggests.
