Former Mossad chiefs: Iran unlikely to avenge Soleimani assassination until after Biden inauguration

(Worthy News) – Two former Mossad directors and a former Israeli National Security Council director have each stated that Iran will likely wait until after American President-elect Joe Biden is inaugurated on January 20 to seek revenge for the US assassination of Quds Force Chief Qasem Soleimani a year ago, the Jerusalem Post reported Sunday.
A response to the killing has been expected, also because Iran suffered a second blow in 2020 when top Iranian nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakrhizadeh was assassinated in a November strike that the Iranian regime has attributed to Israel.
Apart from a few failed attempts to strike back, Iran has not so far responded to the assassination of Soleimani, one of its most critically important military leaders. Nevertheless, former Mossad chief Shabtai Shavit has told the Jerusalem Post: “We must take into account that [Iran] will respond. They will wait for an opportunity to attack a high-quality target.” While acknowledging that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force has not recovered from the Soleimani assassination, Shavit affirmed that “the Iranians’ patience is never-ending.”
The Jerusalem Post also spoke to former Mossad director Danny Yatom, who noted: “The assassination [of Soleimani] was a very impressive one of strategic value covering the full field with Iran.” Yatom believes that Iran’s failure to seriously retaliate a full year after the killing “teaches us about the weakness of the Quds Force and of the IRGC today now that they don’t have Soleimani.”
Offering his thoughts on the issue at a virtual Jerusalem Press Club event, former National Security Council chief and Maj. Gen. (res.) Giora Eiland said Iran has “no interest today in resuming a large-scale confrontation with anyone, especially not with the US in the next two weeks before the transition of the presidency.”
However, Eiland added: “But Iran feels that at some point, it will have to retaliate, if not against the US, then against Israel or Israeli interests.”
