(Worthy News) – A new Rasmussen Reports survey has shown that 73% of US voters are concerned about the government’s ability to manage the surge of migrants at the border and that 51% of voters are against granting amnesty to millions of undocumented migrants who entered the country illegally.

Rasmussen Reports surveyed 1,000 likely US voters on March 8-9, 2021 following a surge of Central American migrants arriving at the US-Mexico border to escape violence and poverty in their home countries. There has been a marked increase in numbers at the border since President Joe Biden took office with promises to undo much of the Trump administration’s crackdown on immigration.

A main reason for concern about the current surge of migrants is that this very large volume of people must be processed while abiding by COVID-19 protocols. Among the 73% of participants who expressed concern about this, 48% said they are Very Concerned.

In any event, the US House of Representatives is expected to vote this week on two amnesty bills that would give up to 5 million undocumented immigrants legal status. The survey found that 51% of participants are against these pieces of legislation, including 35% who said they Strongly Oppose amnesty. Forty-five percent said they support amnesty for undocumented immigrants, including 22% who Strongly Support it.

The poll found that 68% of Democratic voters are in favor of giving lifetime work permits and a path to citizenship to around five million undocumented immigrants, including 38% who Strongly Support such amnesty. Seventy-two percent of Republicans were found to be against such amnesty, including 55% who Strongly Oppose it. Among unaffiliated voters, 55% were found to oppose such measures, including 36% who are Strongly Opposed.
