(Worthy News) – The Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and Navy held joint amphibious landing exercises near Taiwan on Friday, in what should be considered as warnings and a deterrent to the US and to “Taiwan secessionists,” China’s Communist Party-backed Global Times said on Sunday. The exercises were conducted a day after a military plane landed in Taiwan for the second time this year.

According to the Global Times report, “an armored unit attached to a heavy amphibious combined arms brigade affiliated with the PLA 73rd Group Army on Friday conducted a series of live-fire exercises in waters off the southeastern coastline of Fujian.”

“Dozens of Type 05 series amphibious armored vehicles moved out from the coast into the sea and boarded PLA Navy’s Type 072A tank landing ships, which carried them in a long-distance sea-crossing maneuver,” the Global Times said.

A Chinese military expert who requested anonymity told the Global Times that the PLA exercises were probably routine, and not directly related to the US C-146A plane which reportedly landed at Taipei airport on Thursday.

However, the expert said, the exercises certainly increased the Chinese forces’ ability to protect national sovereignty and territorial integrity. Further such exercises are anticipated, the Global Times said.
