(Worthy News) – A new study by Probe Ministries has shown that over 60% of born-again US Christians aged 18 to 39 believe that, in addition to Jesus, Buddha, and Muhammad offer paths to salvation as well, the Christian Post (CP) reports.

Presenting its Religious Views & Practices Survey, Probe Ministries said there has been a “striking decline” in evangelical beliefs over the last decade, CP reports. Taken in 2020, the survey interviewed 3,100 US citizens aged 18 to 55 on a variety of beliefs, including God’s attributes, the accuracy of the Bible, salvation, and the sinlessness of Jesus.

The survey found the number of born-again American Christians who hold a “basic biblical worldview” fell substantially from 47% in 2010 to 25% in 2020, CP said. Moreover, the number of those with an “expanded biblical worldview” about Satan and objective morality fell sharply from 32% in 2010 to 16% in 2020.

In a statement, president of Probe Ministries Kerby Anderson said the downward trends revealed in the study shows not only that church leaders are not adequately teaching the Bible, but also that younger adults are distracted with such things as social media. “These disturbing trends are, yes, due to pastors not consistently teaching biblical theory can also be attributed to young Christians who are not paying attention, who are focused — nearly exclusively, it seems — on their phones, social media, and other content they deem more compelling,” Anderson said.

“Pastors and church leaders just can’t assume any longer that the members of their church or Christian organization have a biblical worldview,” Anderson affirmed. “We have to continue to explain…that there is no way to salvation, other than through the sacrificial and atoning death of a sinless Christ. That no one can come to the Father except through the Son, but also that anyone may come through Him.”
