(Worthy News) – Islamist militants decapitated a pastor in Cabo Delgado, Mozambique on Wednesday, and made his wife carry his head to a local police station, International Chrisitan Concern (ICC) reports. The atrocity was the latest attack in an insurgency that has killed over 3,000 Mozambicans since 2017.

Reporting on the attack, the Zimbabwe Daily said that “suspected Islamic State-linked insurgents intercepted the pastor in a field, decapitated him and then handed over his head to his wife and ordered her to inform the authorities.”

The attack was carried out by members of a terrorist group called Al-Shabab, and is loosely connected to Islamic State, ICC reports.

In March this year, A-Shabab militants murdered dozens of people, including Christians, in a coordinated attack on Cabo Delgado’s capital of Palma. Westerners from what the terrorists call “Crusader nations” were also killed in the Palma attack.

Calling for prayer for the widow of the pastor killed on Wednesday, ICC said in its report: “Please pray that the Lord would provide comfort to the wife of this slain pastor, and that He would heal her of the trauma she has had to endure. Pray for peace in Mozambique, as well as for the hearts of those who persecute the church, that the love of Jesus would bring them from darkness to light.”
