(Worthy News) – An American Christian couple who care for the poor and share the Gospel with them have been going back and forth from the Romanian border with Ukraine, taking supplies to Ukrainians suffering under the Russian invasion, and bringing child refugees out of the war-torn country to safety, CBN News reports.

Kirk and Violeta Nowery have been doing their humanitarian work as part of the Hope Partners International, a non-profit organization of which Kirk is CEO.

Since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February, Hope Partners has helped bring nearly 11,000 Ukrainians across the border to Romania, CBN reports. The Nowerys have been involved in this work by arranging missions with pastors driving vans full of supplies to the border, delivering the aid, and then filling up the vans with Ukrainian children who need safety.

“Our mission is to rescue children and transform their lives in Jesus’ name,” Kirk told CBN. “Hope lies in Jesus Christ. And the first hand that reaches out in any disaster in the world ought to come from God’s people who represent the hands and feet of Jesus.”

“We send three vans each week with food, water, and medical supplies and take them to a town called Ishmael,” Kirk explained. “And Christians on the other side bring their vans and offload their supplies.”

Children in need of safety are then picked up at the border and taken to the Hope Center located in Constanța, Romania, where they are cared for, CBN reports.
