(Worthy News) – Crisis Pregnancies in several states have been attacked and vandalized since the US Supreme Court on Friday withdrew a federal right to abortion it had conferred in the 1973 landmark case of Roe v Wade, the Roys Report said. In reversing Roe, the Supreme Court ruled in Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization that there is no constitutional right to abortion, and that the issue should be decided upon by the people in individual states.

Largely run by Christians, and outnumbering abortion clinics, crisis pregnancy centers across the country offer material support and counseling to vulnerable pregnant women who need help to keep their babies, as well as services including parenting classes, ultrasounds, and pregnancy tests, Roys Report said.

However, the centers have come under attack by pro-choice vandals historically, with an uptick in violence since the draft Dobbs opinion was leaked in early May, and since the Supreme Court officially reversed Roe last week, Roys Report said. Pregnancy centers in Lynchburg, Virginia, and Longmont, Colorado, have been vandalized or firebombed, just when more women are expected to turn to them for help.

In a statement to Roys Report, Amy Scheuring, executive director of the Women’s Choice Network, said recent protests have been “dark, violent and threatening.” Activists have begun tearing down signs, covering the windows with abortion rights literature, and taping the front door shut so the staff is stuck inside.

“We’re very aware that there is a side that has rage and anger right now, and they’re pointing it toward these centers,” Scheuring added. “But it’s something we feel is collateral damage. Along with this great decision, there’s going to be backlash…It’s about remaining Christ-like in our responses to all sides.”
