(Worthy News) – The landmark 1979 JESUS Film has just been translated into its 2,000th language, the Jesus Film Project (JFP) reports. Based solely on the account of Jesus’ life as recorded in the Gospel of Luke, the film has drawn a reported 49 million people to Christ since its release over 40 years ago.

JFP recently celebrated that the Jesus Film is now available in its 2,000th language – the language of the people of Zo. Numbering around 65,000 Zo people live in Myanmar, where a printed Bible is hard to find and where many people cannot read in any event.

“We’re praying this new translation of JESUS in Zo provides a way for the Zo to have access to the story of Jesus in a format they can understand, wherever they are,” JFP explains on its website.

As with all 2,000 versions, the film was translated into Zo with the help of researchers, translators, voice actors, engineers, dialogue directors, and approval committees working together for every new version of the movie, JFP said.

“They’re local believers and native speakers who want to give their people the opportunity to hear the gospel—many for the first time. But they also know JESUS is a great tool for mentoring new believers and planting churches.”

“We believe in the power of media and film to deliver the greatest and most important story ever told: the story of Jesus,” the Jesus Film organization explains in a website statement. “And it works. When people hear Jesus’ words, directly from Scripture and in their own language, they have in front of them the clear, matchless message of the gospel.”
