(Worthy News) – The state of Mississippi has been slammed with devastating storms and tornadoes, causing at least two major American Christian organizations and volunteers to rush to the aid of their fellow citizens “in Jesus’ Name.” The situation in Mississippi was so severe that 26 people had been killed, and the Biden administration declared a state of emergency there.

As Mississippi faced a 100-miles of destroyed infrastructure and homes, the Samaritan’s Purse and Operation Blessing evangelical aid ministries were among those who mobilized to provide substantial relief.

The Samaritan’s Purse organization sent tractor trailers with supplies and equipment and set up response locations in Rolling Fork in western Mississippi and Amory in the eastern part of the state.

“Some team members are already on the ground working with local emergency management officials and churches to assess needs and plan a response,” the ministry said in a website statement. “Volunteers are scheduled to begin work Monday, March 27. Teams will help in Jesus’ Name tarping damaged roofs, cutting up fallen or damaged trees, and clearing debris from yards and homes. Billy Graham chaplains will also be working in communities, providing spiritual comfort and emotional support to hurting homeowners.”

Meanwhile, Operation Blessing has also been doing the heavy lifting of helping devastated Mississippi communities. “Operation Blessing assessment teams are on the ground identifying needs and building partnerships to send in relief,” the ministry said on its website. “Today (03/27/23), the ministry is sending a shipment of bottled water, emergency meal kits, and cleanup supplies to Bethel Church in Amory, Mississippi,” Operation Blessing said.

Calling for prayer for Mississippi, Samaritan’s Purse requested: “Please pray for the families impacted by this storm, the local first responders who are helping, for local churches as they minister to communities, and for our volunteers and staff as we begin serving homeowners in coming days.”
