(Worthy News) – Twenty students made professions of faith in Christ and were baptized during an annual 72-hour worship event at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, earlier this month.

A private Christian University with 20,000 students, Baylor has been holding what it calls “FM72” events each spring since 2019.

FM72 involves round-the-clock prayer and worship centered around the campus’s Fountain Mall for four consecutive nights. This year’s event began on Sunday, March 19, and ran through Wednesday, March 22. The event is attended by students and is led by local pastors.

“The purpose of FM72 is to stir a passion for Jesus Christ in the Baylor community,” Charles Ramsey, associate chaplain, and director for Chapel and Campus Ministries at Baylor, explains on the university’s website.

“It is a time to take inventory of one’s own journey, to linger in prayer and to recalibrate towards what is most important: our shared faith in Jesus Christ,” Ramsey said. “Simply put, the goal is that every person experiences a clear, caring and compelling invitation to know Jesus, and to find a discipleship community where they can grow and flourish.”

The theme at this year’s FM72  was  “Lord, teach us to pray,” based on Luke 11:1. A prayer tent was set up with several stations representing the different sections of the Lord’s Prayer.  “Something good, tangibly good, happens when we stop to pray,” Ramsey attests. “There is a wonder, and sense of joy in discovering prayer, and for many this opens the way to an ongoing and deepening devotional, a more personal faith and a love for the church. That is our hope: to engage more of the facets of Christianity in our community, and to humbly invite greater participation.”
