WASHINGTON/TEHRAN (Worthy News) – The U.S. military says it is arming aircraft sent to the Middle East with “bunker-busting” bombs due to “increasing aggression” from the Islamic Republic of Iran, which may soon have nuclear weapons.

A squadron of A-10 Thunderbolt II fighter jets, known as “Warthogs,” was for the first time saddled with the 250-pound structure-penetrating payload, U.S. officials said.

The warthogs are reportedly each capable of carrying approximately 16 “bunker busters,” otherwise known as GBU-39/B bombs.

Air Force Lieutenant General Alexus Grynkewich told the Wall Street Journal newspaper that the
“A-10s are highly effective at some of the things we need to do.”

Grynkewich is well-informed as he oversees U.S. military operations in the skies above Syria. It was not immediately clear if the bombs had already been used recently in Iran.

The latest saber-rattling from Washington comes shortly after Iranian forces intercepted and seized a boat transporting crude oil from Kuwait to the United States.

Sailing under the flag of the Marshall Islands, the vessel was destined for Houston, Texas, several sources said.

LATEST ESCALATION

The vessel’s seizure was the latest escalation from Iran, which Israel warns is close to developing nuclear weapons despite Western pressure to end its program.

Tehran claims its nuclear program is for “peaceful purposes.” Washington has also blamed Iran for repeated rocket attacks on U.S. forces in Syria.

Earlier this year, Iran also renewed threats to target ex-President Donald J. Trump and members of his former Cabinet, including ex-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, for the 2020 killing of its military commander, Qasem Soleimani.

Yet current U.S. President Joe Biden’s administration made clear it won’t allow Tehran to threaten Americans.

Besides bombs, Biden uses sanctions to target Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps intelligence organization for “wrongfully” detaining Americans.

“Today, and every day, our message to Russia, Iran, and the world is holding hostage or wrongfully detaining Americans is unacceptable. Release them immediately,” Biden said Thursday.
