(Worthy News) – Christians and Messianic Jews around the world have entered the final days of a 3-week global movement of prayer and fasting for Israel, leading up to the biblical feast of Shavuot (Feast of Weeks/Pentecost) this week, All Israel News reports.

Titled the Isaiah 62 Global 21-Days of Prayer and Fasting, the movement was initiated by the US Kansas City-based International House of Prayer (IHOPKC), All Israel News reports. Organizers hoped to gather more than 1 million participants in the event.

The movement was named after the Scriptures in chapter 62 of the Book of Isaiah, which speak of God’s future vindication and glorification of Jerusalem (Zion), and of “watchmen” who will “never be silent” in praying for the city until He has fulfilled all He said he would for it.

“For many Evangelical Christians, the return of Jesus and the restoration of Israel are connected,” All Israel News explains in its report. “While there are different views of eschatology – the beliefs related to the End Times – most Evangelical Christians believe the two events are related in some way.” In a website video, IHOPKC says that the fast is intended to highlight “the connection between God’s blessing on Jerusalem and the fulfilling of the Great Commission.”

Even so, the Isaiah 62 Fast organizers told All Israel News that the movement’s focus is not eschatology but a desire “to raise up intercessors for Israel.” Indeed, IHOPKC founder Mike Bickle has said he hopes to“raise up 100 million intercessors for Israel.”
