China is conducting “relentless espionage campaign” against America, US lawmaker reports

(Worthy News) – The Chairman of the US House Select Committee on China has warned that the Chinese Communist Party is conducting a “relentless espionage campaign against America,” Politico reports.

Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-Wis.) issued his warning on Saturday during an interview with Fox News. His statements followed the arrest on Thursday of two US Navy sailors who allegedly engaged in espionage for China.

Asserting that the US must get to grips with the extent of China’s espionage inside America and warning against the dangerous influence of the secretive Chinese Ministry of State Security, Gallagher said: “The CCP has continued its relentless espionage campaign against America. We are slowly waking up to it. But we’re just beginning to scratch the surface in terms of this activity on American soil.”

Moreover, Gallagher said, the Chinese government led by Xi Jinping is intent on taking over the democratic island nation of Taiwan, which it believes is part of mainland China. “I believe that Xi Jinping’s lifelong ambition is to take Taiwan,” Gallagher stated.

“It makes sense they would seek to gather as much information as possible in preparation for such a conflict, and also in order to weaken our ability to surge men and material from the domestic United States to the Indo-Pacific if we did find ourselves in a shooting war with China, which we should be moving heaven and Earth to try and avoid to deter, to prevent. Because it would be incredibly destructive,” Gallagher attested.
