US Senate shows bipartisan support of large military aid package for Israel

(Worthy News) – The US Senate this week expressed strong bipartisan support for a large spending bill that will increase funding for military and security aid to Israel during its ongoing war against the Hamas Palestinian terror organization in the Gaza Strip, the Daily Excelsior reports. The war was triggered by Hamas’ October 7 surprise attack on Israeli civilians in southern Israel, a catastrophically violent event in which 1,300 mostly civilian men, women, and children were slaughtered and around 200 kidnapped.

The bipartisan support for Israel was publicized following a classified briefing on October 18, during which senators received new intelligence about the Israel-Hamas war, the Excelsior said.

“I think you’re not going to find any problem whatsoever getting support [to] Israel,” Sen. Marco Rubio (R) said in a statement. “The good news is a lot of Israeli defense aid is already codified. It’s already in place.”

“Supporting Israel is at the top of the Senate’s attention I’m urging every member to support the resolution reaffirming Israel’s right to self-defense & expressing we stand ready to support,” Majority Leader Sen. (D) Chuck Schumer said in a post on the X social media platform. “We’ll work with @POTUS to pass an emergency supplemental to give Israel tools they need.”

If Congress approves the aid package, Israel will soon receive a record $10 billion in emergency aid requested by the Biden administration, Excelsior said.
