Dutch Legislator: EU To Force Digital Identification (Worthy News-Investigation)

BRUSSELS (Worthy News) – A Dutch legislator of the European Union’s parliament has condemned the EU’s leadership for “pushing through” a plan forcing Europeans to use digital identification verification.

Rob Roos, an independent member of the European Parliament, shared with his followers on social media platform X, “Breaking: Very bad news.” He added that the “European Parliament and member states just reached an agreement on introducing the [European] Digital Identity,” known as eID.

“Directly afterward, EU [Internal Market] Commissioner Thierry Breton said: ‘Now that we have a Digital Identity Wallet, we have to put something in it…’, suggesting a connection between #CBDC and eID,” Roos added, referring to Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC).

EU leaders confirmed Roos’ observations. “With the approval of the European digital identity regulation, we are taking a fundamental step so that citizens can have a unique and secure European digital identity,” said Nadia Calviño, acting Spanish first vice-president and minister for economy and digitalization.

“This is a key advance for the European Union to be a global reference in the digital field, protecting our democratic rights and values,” she added in comments seen by Worthy News.

However, Roos stressed that “They ignored all the privacy experts and security specialists. They’re pushing it all through. I am not optimistic.”

Yet, he said, “it is not too late yet. Parliament still has to vote about this.” He urged his followers to “let your [Member of the European Parliament], MEP know that you oppose the Digital Identity and that you want your MEP to vote against it!”

COVID-19 PASSPORTS

Roos previously vehemently opposed COVID-19 vaccine passports that he said “were a type of institutional discrimination. Millions of people lost access to large parts of society while there was no evidence the vaccine would stop the spread.”

In separate remarks, the EU acknowledged that the eID is linked to the COVID-19 pandemic when critics such as Roos said the EU reduced the fundamental rights of its citizens.

“Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, more public and private services have become digital. This requires secure and reliable digital identification systems,” the EU’s European Council said in a statement obtained by Worthy News.

The eID enables the mutual recognition of national electronic identification schemes across borders. “It also allows EU citizens to identity and authenticate themselves online without having to resort to commercial providers,” the European Council noticed.

In addition, the eID enables “people to access online services from other EU countries using their national electronic identity card,” the Council said.

It cited benefits for citizens of the 450 million strong EU “such as easy access to public services like requesting birth certificates, medical certificates, reporting a change or address.”

Also, “Opening a bank account, filing tax returns,” and “applying for a university in your own country or in another EU country” would also be possible with an eID.

MEDICAL PRESCRIPTION

However, the eID could also be “storing a medical prescription that can be used anywhere in Europe, proving your age” and enabling “renting a car, using a digital driving license [and] checking into a hotel.”

Roos fears it will only lead to more control.

This isn’t the first time he publicly questions the intentions of leaders and executives: last year

Roos exposed perceived shortcomings of COVID-19 vaccines rolled out by pharmaceutical giants such as Pfizer.

In October 2022, Janine Small, Pfizer’s president of international developed markets, answered “no” when asked by Roos if the company tested its mRNA jab on stopping transmission before it entered markets.

The Dutch lawmaker later called it “scandalous” given that vaccine passports and mandates were pushed globally on the implication that they would stop transmission.
