(Worthy News) – This week, the US Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal in a case concerning COVID-19 vaccination requirements in the workplace, thus allowing a New Jersey vaccine mandate to stand, Newsweek reports.

The Supreme Court orders list on Tuesday showed the justices refused to hear further arguments in the case Katie Sczesny, et al. v. Murphy, Gov. of New Jersey, et al., Newsweek said. The High Court did not provide any reason for its decision.

The case had been brought by four nurses who filed suit against New Jersey for mandating COVID-19 vaccine requirements in the workplace, Newsweek reports. The plaintiffs had cited religious freedom and health concerns as the reasons for their complaint.

In light of the High Court’s decision, a ruling by the Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit on the matter is allowed to stand, Newsweek said. The appeals court ruled that New Jersey’s vaccine mandate did not violate the nurses’ Constitutional freedoms.

“We are disappointed the Supreme Court did not take up this issue now but hope that it will take up this question soon, whether in this case after final judgment or another case. We need our highest Court to provide guidance on this important question of liberty before another pandemic and another emergency vaccine,” Dana Wefer, a lawyer for the plaintiffs, told Newsweek on Tuesday.
