(Worthy News) – Warning Israel that it is expected to allow humanitarian aid to enter the Gaza Strip even after the current ceasefire with Hamas is over, the US on Tuesday sent the first of three military planes to Egypt with medicines, food, and winter items for Gaza civilians, Axios reports. The other two US planes will arrive in Egypt in the coming days.

The four-day ceasefire, which was extended by two further days on Monday, allowed for a substantial increase in the number of aid trucks entering Gaza, Axios said. Among the items being brought in were fuel and cooking gas.

Notably, the Biden administration emphasized that the increase in aid entering Gaza was not contingent on Hamas’ release of Israeli hostages, Axios reports.

“The assistance that is being moved in and the fuel that is being provided are not linked to the hostage releases,” a senior US official told reporters.”Obviously, we have taken maximum advantage of the pause for the hostage releases to increase as much as we can but what we are doing stands on its own,” the official said.

The official added that the US has “made very clear that this level or increased levels ideally need to be sustained.”
