(Worthy News) – The US has informed Israel that if it resumes its ground offensive to dismantle Hamas in Gaza, it must operate with greater precision to avoid “significant further displacement” of Palestinian civilians in the southern part of the Strip, the Associated Press reports.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that Israel will resume military operations in Gaza once the current ceasefire, a temporary arrangement agreed to allow the release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners and the entry of humanitarian aid, is over.

While Israel has publicly doubted Hamas’ reports on civilian casualties, the terror group says at least 14,000 Palestinians have been killed in the war so far. Two-thirds of those killed are reportedly women and children.

Under pressure from international agencies, including the UN, the Biden administration is calling on Israel to carefully consider its next steps in the war to prevent large-scale civilian casualties once the ceasefire has ended, AP reports. Unlike Hamas, Israel seeks to avoid civilian casualties, a task rendered exceedingly difficult as the Gaza terror group uses its own people, including women, children, and the infirm, as human shields.

According to a senior official who spoke to AP on condition of anonymity, “Israelis have been receptive when administration officials have raised these concerns.”
