(Worthy News) – Amid worldwide debate about the effect of Artificial Intelligence technology on the global workforce, Thailand, this week, introduced its first AI reporters on one of its leading television news channels, the Washington Times reports.

Thailand’s Nation TV news channel on Monday evening saw female AI reporter Natcha and her male counterpart, Nitchan, presenting the “Nation News Alert” segment, the Times said.

“As a leading news station focused on innovation, Nation TV channel 22 saw an opportunity to use generative AI to increase our news presentation capability,” Apirawee Pichayadecha, Nation TV’s managing director, said in a statement. “We have used AI to create female news reporter Natcha and her male counterpart Nitchan, who will be the first news reporters in Thailand.”

“AI reporters will help support the work of our editorial department, allowing [human] reporters to have more time to focus on gathering and verifying information,” Pichayadecha added. “News reporting by Natcha and Nitchan will be accompanied by automatic closed captions that will make viewers feel like they are listening to real persons.”

Pichayadecha noted that China and India are already using AI for enhanced data processing and analysis in order to improve productivity and news quality, the Times reports.
