(Worthy News) – Amid a spate of murderous attacks against Christians by Fulani jihadist herdsmen in Nigeria’s Plateau state, 12 mostly women and babies from a Christian farming community in Mangu County were slaughtered in their beds at 2 am on Apr. 19, Morning Star News (MSN) reports.

Local resident Israel Bamshak said in a statement to MSN that the Fulani had attacked the Christian community in Mangu County’s Tilengpan Pushit with no provocation. “Most of the victims are women and children who were unable to escape from the invaders,” Bamshak said.

In a separate statement, area resident John Musa added: “Twelve members of our community have been killed,” Musa said. “We have become targets of attacks from Fulani herdsmen for no just cause.”

Nigeria ranks six on the Open Doors World Watch List 2024 of the top 50 countries where Christians are persecuted. Many tens of thousands of Nigerian Christians have been slaughtered by Islamic terrorists since jihadism began to take hold in the country in 2009, while the Islamic-led government has done next to nothing to protect them.

“More believers are killed for their faith in Nigeria each year, than everywhere else in the world combined,” the Open Doors international Christian advocacy reports. “The attacks are often brutal in nature and can involve destruction of properties, abductions for ransom, sexual violence and death. Believers are stripped of their livelihoods and driven from their homes, leaving a trail of grief and trauma.”
