(Worthy News) – A young American missionary couple who were committed to continue serving in Haiti despite the extreme levels of lawless violence there, were murdered by gang members in the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince on Thursday.

Members of Missions in Haiti, Inc., Natalie Lloyd, 21, the daughter of Missouri state Rep. Ben Baker, and her husband, Davy Lloyd, 23, were slaughtered together with Jude Montis, 20, the Haitian director of Missions in Haiti, on May 23. Missions in Haiti Inc. was founded by Davy’s father, David Lloyd, in 2000. Davy was reportedly deeply committed to serving God in Haiti, a country he referred to as “home.”

The three young Christians were ambushed by gunmen on their way from a youth event. The gang members took them to a house owned by their Mission organization, where they were killed. The gang made off with the organization’s vehicles and other property, TRR said.

Natalie’s father Rep. Baker announced the devastating news in a Facebook post: “My heart is shattered into pieces. I’ve never experienced such agony. Many of you know that my daughter and son-in-law, Davy and Natalie Lloyd, were devoted missionaries in Haiti. They were assaulted by gang members this evening and tragically lost their lives. They ascended to Heaven together.”

Chronically wracked by extreme political instability throughout its history, Haiti has recently been taken over by gangs who, since the assassination of President Jovenel Moise in 2021, have torn down any semblance of governance and infrastructure, controlling civilians with brutality. The 400 Mawozo gang is known for targeting religious groups, especially Christians.
