(Worthy News) – Christians in Nigeria’s Plateau state have been warned to spend the next few weeks on high alert against attacks by Fulani radicalized Islamic herdsmen as three more believers were murdered on Monday (January 6), bringing the number of such killings to 11 since early December, Morning Star News (MSN) reports.

At around 10.30 pm on January 6, Fulani militants raided predominantly Christian Sha village in Plateau state’s Bokkos County and murdered three villagers, MSN reports.

“Signs that such attacks were imminent were reported beforehand by Christians in the Bokkos area, as they sighted large groups of armed herdsmen gathering to attack during the Christmas and New Year season,” MSN said.

Calling on local Christians to remain vigilant against attacks by Fulani during the Christmas and New Year season through January 29, area resident Magit Sabastine Mandik issued a security alert advising locals that “Fulani militias are fully prepared to cause attacks on innocent people.”

Tens of thousands of Christians have been murdered by Fulani herdsmen and other Islamic terrorists since jihadism began to take hold in northern Nigeria in 2009. In a current website statement, the Open Doors international Christian advocacy group explains: “Violence by Islamic extremist groups such as Fulani militants, Boko Haram and ISWAP (Islamic State in West African Province) increased during the presidency of Muhammadu Buhari, putting Nigeria at the epicenter of targeted violence against the church. The government’s failure to protect Christians and punish perpetrators has only strengthened the militants’ influence.”
