Trump Unveils ‘Golden Dome’ Missile Shield to Defend U.S. from Global Threats

(Worthy News) – U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced the official launch of the “Golden Dome,” a next-generation missile defense initiative designed to protect the United States from advanced threats, including hypersonic and space-launched weapons.
“I’m pleased to announce that we have officially selected an architecture for this state-of-the-art system that will deploy next-generation technologies across the land, sea, and space,” Trump said during a White House briefing. “It will be fully operational before the end of my term.”
The $175 billion project—named in homage to Israel’s Iron Dome but billed as far more sophisticated—will be led by U.S. Space Force Gen. Michael Guetlein and will deploy next-generation technologies across land, sea, and space, including satellites and space-based interceptors. Trump said initial funding of $25 billion is included in the pending “One Big Beautiful” reconciliation bill.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth issued a detailed statement hailing the announcement as a “historic investment in American security.” He said the initiative was formally established in Executive Order 14186 signed on January 27, 2025, and responds to a modern threat environment in which adversaries have developed increasingly lethal long-range missile capabilities.
“The Golden Dome will progressively protect our nation from aerial attacks from any foe,” Hegseth stated. “This includes ballistic, hypersonic, and cruise missiles capable of striking the homeland with either conventional or nuclear warheads.”
According to the Department of Defense, the system will build on existing U.S. missile defense infrastructure while integrating new technologies and space-based systems to create a layered, interoperable “system of systems.” Golden Dome will be developed in phases, prioritizing defense in regions most exposed to missile threats.
Hegseth emphasized the Golden Dome’s alignment with two core Pentagon goals: rebuilding U.S. military capability and reestablishing deterrence. He added that it is being designed in close coordination with NORAD, USNORTHCOM, and USSPACECOM to ensure full interoperability with current defenses.
“Golden Dome ensures that the American homeland is not left exposed while adversaries develop more advanced and lethal long-range weapons,” he said. “Our goal is peace through strength.”
Trump also noted that Canada has expressed interest in being included under the dome’s protective coverage and suggested the architecture could eventually involve international cooperation and allied technologies.
While the Congressional Budget Office has warned the full system could cost over $800 billion across two decades, Trump dismissed concerns about funding. “We have all the funding pretty much tucked away,” he said.
The president likened the Golden Dome to the Manhattan Project in scope and urgency. Gen. Guetlein, who will lead the initiative, previously testified that the system will require “uniting agencies, embracing innovation, and coordinating nontraditional contractors” to meet the ambitious timeline.
If successful, the Golden Dome will become the most comprehensive missile defense system ever fielded, capable of neutralizing threats from anywhere in the world.
