TEHRAN (Worthy News) – Iran is preparing to reject a U.S. proposal aimed at resolving the longstanding nuclear dispute, with a senior Iranian diplomat describing the offer as a “non-starter” that fails to address Tehran’s key demands, particularly regarding uranium enrichment and immediate sanctions relief, a senior Iranian diplomat told Reuters.

The proposal, delivered by Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, follows five rounds of discussions between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff. However, Iran remains steadfast in its refusal to halt uranium enrichment or export its enriched uranium stockpile, both central U.S. demands. Tehran insists on the immediate lifting of all U.S.-imposed sanctions that have crippled its oil-based economy.

The anticipated rejection has exacerbated geopolitical tensions, leading to significant movements in global commodity markets. Oil prices surged, with Brent crude rising 4.3% to $65.47 per barrel and West Texas Intermediate (WTI) increasing 4.6% to $63.59 per barrel. The spike is attributed to fears of potential supply disruptions in the Middle East, especially following reports suggesting Israel may be preparing to strike Iranian nuclear facilities.

Gold prices also climbed as investors sought safe-haven assets amid the escalating tensions. Spot gold surpassed $3,300 per ounce, reflecting market anxiety over the potential for a broader regional conflict.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s nuclear negotiations committee has assessed the U.S. proposal as “completely one-sided,” reinforcing Tehran’s stance against the current terms. As the situation develops, global markets remain on edge, closely monitoring the implications of Iran’s response and the potential for further escalation in the region.
