Christian Man Vanishes In Pakistan As Concerns Mount Over Missing Believers, Jailed Christians

LAHORE, PAKISTAN (Worthy News) – Concern mounted Friday over the disappearance of a young Christian businessman in Pakistan and the continued imprisonment of two Christian men held for years on blasphemy charges, underscoring the challenges facing the country’s Christian minority.

Daniyal Darshan, from the village of Mokhal in Punjab’s Daska area, has been missing since June 19 after leaving home with about 1.2 million Pakistani rupees (roughly $4,300) to purchase livestock for his business, according to Christian advocacy group Centre for Legal Aid, Assistance and Settlement UK (CLAAS-UK).

As the sole breadwinner for his parents and younger siblings, Darshan regularly traveled to livestock markets to buy and sell cattle. However, he never reached his intended destination and has not been seen since, Christians told Worthy News.

The disappearance has devastated his family, who say they have received no reliable information about his whereabouts and fear for his safety.

Shortly after he vanished, relatives said they learned that an Islamic conversion certificate dated June 19 had reportedly been issued in his name, stating that he had embraced Islam and adopted the name Muhammad Danish.

FAMILY SEEKS ANSWERS

His family strongly disputes that any conversion was voluntary and believes the certificate was issued after his disappearance. They have obtained a copy of the document, but its authenticity and the circumstances surrounding its issuance have not been independently verified.

CLAAS-UK said its legal team recently visited the family to assess the situation and offer free legal assistance.

“Their greatest concern is Daniyal’s wellbeing, as they do not know whether he is safe or even alive,” the organization explained to Worthy News. “Above all, they long to see him safely reunited with them.”

The legal advocacy group said it remains committed to supporting the family while pursuing every available legal avenue and urged authorities to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the disappearance.

The case comes amid broader concerns about the vulnerability of Christians in Pakistan, where rights groups have documented numerous cases involving alleged forced conversions, abductions, discrimination, and accusations of blasphemy.

OTHER CASES EMERGE

CLAAS-UK also called for prayers for Anita, whose husband, Sajid Masih, remains missing, as well as for Saba Maryam and Sheeza, two Christian women seeking justice in separate court cases involving alleged violence and abuse.

The organization welcomed the safe recovery of 13-year-old Aneeqa, who was reunited with her family after what supporters described as her abduction, forced conversion to Islam, and forced marriage. However, legal proceedings in her case are continuing.

At the same time, concern remains over the prolonged imprisonment of Christians Asif Pervaiz and Ashfaq Masih, who have spent about 12 years and eight years respectively behind bars on blasphemy charges while awaiting justice.

Christian advocates say Pakistan’s blasphemy laws are frequently misused to settle personal disputes or target religious minorities, though Pakistani officials have rejected allegations of systematic discrimination and insist that all citizens are equal before the law.

CHRISTIANS UNDER PRESSURE

Pakistan, an Islamic nation of more than 250 million people, is home to an estimated 3 to 4 million Christians, representing roughly 1.5 to 2 percent of the population.

Despite constitutional guarantees of religious freedom, Christian advocates say many believers continue to face discrimination, attacks, blasphemy accusations, and alleged forced conversions, making Pakistan one of the world’s most difficult places to live openly as a Christian.
