FISA Court Approves DOJ Review of Carter Page Surveillance as Congress Presses for Crossfire Hurricane Records

(Worthy News) – The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) has granted the Justice Department permission to review and redact classified materials related to surveillance of former Trump adviser Carter Page. The move comes amid growing demands from GOP-led congressional committees for documents tied to the FBI’s “Crossfire Hurricane” probe into alleged Trump-Russia collusion.
The DOJ told the court it must internally review documents to prevent unlawful disclosure of FISA-protected material while responding to requests from the House and Senate Judiciary Committees. Judge Anthony Trenga approved the DOJ’s request on June 17, calling the review a “good faith” effort that supports congressional oversight.
FBI Director Kash Patel, at President Donald Trump’s direction, has already declassified portions of the Crossfire Hurricane records. Lawmakers including Sen. Chuck Grassley and Rep. Jim Jordan are pressing Patel and Attorney General Pam Bondi to release additional unredacted transcripts and documents.
The 2019 DOJ inspector general report revealed 17 major flaws in the Page surveillance warrants, primarily due to reliance on the discredited Steele dossier — funded by Hillary Clinton’s campaign and promoted by Democratic lawyer Marc Elias and Fusion GPS. Special Counsel John Durham’s 2023 report found the FBI lacked evidence to justify opening the investigation and may have been politically manipulated.
A recent CIA review also criticized former CIA Director John Brennan for pushing to include the Steele dossier in the 2016 Intelligence Community Assessment. Brennan, who now works in media, may face legal scrutiny after a criminal referral by former DNI John Ratcliffe.
As DOJ and FBI task forces review thousands of pages of material, lawmakers say the disclosures could shape future FISA reform and help expose political abuse of federal intelligence powers.
