Two Indonesian Churches Torched

JAKARTA, INDONESIA (Worthy News)– Two house churches in Riau were burned down Tuesday, the latest of a series of attacks on minority religious groups in Indonesia.

The attacks have prompted international condemnation from both the United States and the European Union.

The homes were being used as unlicensed houses of worship in Kuansing regency, VIVAnews reported.

A Kuansing Police representative said the homes were only made of board and not real churches.

The houses were “easily burned because they were made of planks, thus flammable,” said Pangean Police Chief Adjutant Nazarudin.

He said police were investigating and called upon all residents to maintain vigilance.
