RIF DAMASHQ, SYRIA (Worthy News) – U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) and the Syrian Ministry of Interior announced Sunday that a joint operation has located and destroyed more than 15 ISIS weapons-storage sites in southern Syria, marking one of the most extensive counter-terrorism strikes carried out in the region this year.

The coordinated actions—conducted between November 24 and 27—were carried out by U.S. forces from Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) alongside Syrian security units. The teams identified and eliminated the ISIS facilities across the Rif Damashq province through a combination of precision airstrikes and controlled ground detonations.

CENTCOM said the combined effort destroyed more than 130 mortars and rockets, as well as assault rifles, machine guns, anti-tank mines, and components used in the construction of improvised explosive devices. Troops also found and destroyed quantities of illicit narcotics.

“This successful operation ensures gains made against ISIS are lasting, and the group is not able to regenerate or export terrorist attacks to the U.S. homeland and around the world,” said Adm. Brad Cooper, commander of CENTCOM.

ISIS, which once ruled territory spanning Syria and Iraq, was militarily crushed in 2019. While its command structure has fractured, dispersed sleeper cells remain active—particularly in desert regions and rural pockets south of Damascus.

CJTF-OIR, established in 2014, continues to advise, assist, and enable partner forces in counter-ISIS operations.

“We will remain vigilant and continue to aggressively pursue ISIS remnants in Syria,” Cooper added.

The joint counter-terrorism campaign occurred just weeks after U.S. President Donald Trump held talks in Washington with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, who until recently had been sanctioned by the United States. Ahead of the meeting, the Syrian government claimed it had launched nationwide operations targeting ISIS cells.
