Hungary’s Orbán Invited To Trump-Backed Board Of Peace For Gaza
by Stefan J. Bos, Worthy News Europe Bureau Chief
BUDAPEST (Worthy News) – Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has been invited to join a Board of Peace for Gaza proposed by U.S. President Donald J. Trump, to oversee post-war reconstruction in the Palestinian enclave, Hungary’s foreign minister said.
Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó added that Orbán had accepted the invitation. “The prime minister is honored by the invitation and will naturally take part in the work of the board,” Szijjártó told Hungarian radio.
The initiative would fall under a broader Board of Peace framework envisioned by Trump as part of international efforts to stabilize Gaza following months of war and humanitarian devastation.
Orbán, one of Europe’s most outspoken supporters of Trump, is facing his toughest political challenge in 16 years ahead of Hungary’s April 12 parliamentary elections, as opposition forces seek to capitalize on economic difficulties and corruption scandals.
Trump has also invited other world leaders to participate in the Gaza-focused body, including Argentine President Javier Milei and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, officials said.
GAZA RECONSTRUCTION AND DIPLOMACY
The proposed board comes as international actors debate how Gaza could be rebuilt and governed once major hostilities subside.
Hungary has consistently backed Israel’s right to self-defense while calling for humanitarian assistance to civilians, aligning closely with Trump-era U.S. Middle East policies.
No detailed mandate, funding structure, or timeline for the Board of Peace for Gaza has yet been made public, and U.S. officials have not announced when the group would formally convene.
Hungarian officials said Orbán’s participation reflects Budapest’s intent to play a visible role in international peace initiatives while maintaining close political ties with Washington.
