Trump: “They Cannot Have Nuclear Weapons” — President Signals Patience, But Draws Clear Red Line
by Emmitt Barry, Worthy News Washington D.C. Bureau Chief
(Worthy News) – U.S. President Donald Trump made clear Friday that while he is frustrated with Iran’s posture in nuclear negotiations, he is not rushing blindly into conflict — even as American military assets continue to mass across the Middle East.
“I’m not happy with the fact that they’re not willing to give us what we have to have,” Trump told reporters as he departed the White House. “We’re not thrilled with the way they’re negotiating. They cannot have nuclear weapons.”
The remarks followed another inconclusive round of indirect U.S.–Iran talks in Geneva, where negotiators again failed to secure a breakthrough. Despite growing tensions, Trump signaled he is willing to allow diplomacy more time — but not without conditions.
“We haven’t made a final decision,” he said when pressed about potential military action. “I don’t want to, but sometimes you have to.”
A Clear Red Line: “No Enrichment”
Later, speaking in Texas, Trump sharpened his position further, stating that Iran should not be permitted to enrich uranium at any level.
“I say no enrichment — Not 20 percent or 30 percent,” Trump declared. “They want it for civilian purposes… I think it’s uncivil.”
While Iranian officials claim enrichment is for peaceful energy use, the Islamic Republic has enriched uranium to levels far beyond civilian necessity, obstructed international inspectors, and expanded ballistic missile capabilities. A confidential report from the International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed inspectors have not been granted access to sensitive nuclear sites following last year’s strikes during the 12-day Israel-Iran war.
Trump emphasized that Iran must speak what he called the “golden words” — a definitive commitment to no nuclear weapon.
“They cannot have nuclear weapons, and we’re not thrilled with the way they’re negotiating,” he said. “So we’ll see how it all works out.”
Military Pressure Builds
The Pentagon has assembled a formidable presence in the region, including aircraft carriers, advanced fighter jets, and additional strike capabilities. Multiple nations have issued travel advisories as tensions rise, and airlines have suspended flights in and out of Israel.
Still, Trump acknowledged the risks inherent in military action.
“I guess you could say there’s always a risk,” he said. “You know, when there’s war, there’s a risk of anything, both good and bad.”
At the same time, he referenced prior U.S. actions against Iranian assets, saying those operations “worked out” and expressing hope that diplomacy could yet prevail.
“It would be wonderful if they would negotiate in good faith and good conscience,” Trump said. “But they are not getting there.”
Rubio to Israel as Timeline Extends
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will travel to Israel Monday and Tuesday to discuss Iran, Lebanon, and implementation of President Trump’s 20-Point Peace Plan for Gaza.
The visit comes as the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem authorized voluntary departures for nonessential personnel. U.S. Ambassador Mike Huckabee urged staff considering departure to act quickly.
Meanwhile, Oman continues mediating the talks, with technical discussions scheduled for Vienna next week. While Omani officials have expressed optimism, sources within Washington suggest internal skepticism remains high.
As Trump put it bluntly:
“We’re not exactly happy. But we’re talking.”
For now, diplomacy remains alive — but under unmistakable pressure.
Possible Prophetic Significance
As we approach Purim next week, the prophetic dimensions of the feast feel especially weighty. In the days of ancient Persia, Haman — a descendant of Amalek — sought to annihilate the Jewish people through political manipulation and imperial decree. Yet what appeared to be a geopolitical crisis was, in reality, a spiritual confrontation.
The Book of Esther reveals the earthly drama; Daniel 10 unveils the unseen dimension. There, the prophet describes a delayed angelic response because of resistance from the “prince of Persia,” a territorial spiritual power opposing God’s purposes.
Together, these passages expose a pattern: behind Persian thrones and anti-Israel decrees operates a deeper spiritual hostility aimed at thwarting covenant destiny. Purim celebrates divine reversal — the gallows built for destruction becoming the instrument of deliverance — but it also reminds us that historical conflicts involving Persia (modern-day Iran) are never merely political.
They unfold within an ongoing spiritual war over Israel’s preservation and prophetic future. As tensions once again swirl around Iran, the convergence of Purim and Daniel’s revelation invites sober discernment: what manifests in diplomacy and military posture often reflects battles first waged in the heavenlies.
