Planned Parenthood Report Sparks Renewed Pro-Life Calls to Defund Nation’s Largest Abortion Provider

(Worthy News) – Planned Parenthood reported in its latest annual report that it performed a record number of abortions even as its other healthcare services sharply declined—fueling renewed calls from pro-life organizations to defund the nation’s largest abortion provider.
According to the 2024–2025 report, Planned Parenthood performed 434,450 abortions in 2023–2024—an 8% increase from the previous year and a 34% rise since 2014. The data, analyzed by the Charlotte Lozier Institute, marks the second consecutive year the organization has reached a new high.
Meanwhile, services often highlighted as core to women’s healthcare saw steep declines. Cancer screenings and prevention services dropped by 43%, prenatal care fell by 56%, and contraception services decreased by 23%.
“Abortion is the clear focus at Planned Parenthood,” said Tessa Cox of the Charlotte Lozier Institute, pointing to what pro-life advocates describe as a continued shift away from life-affirming care.
Taxpayer funding has also increased significantly, rising by roughly 50% based on fiscal data ending in 2024. Pro-life leaders argue that such funding forces Americans to subsidize abortion services, despite deep moral objections.
Penny Nance, president of Concerned Women for America, said the findings contradict claims that abortion access has become more limited following the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision.
“Americans shouldn’t be forced to fund Planned Parenthood with their taxpayer dollars,” Nance said. “Our government should not be in the business of funding this evil, predatory industry.”
The report also underscores Planned Parenthood’s growing shift toward telehealth, including expanded distribution of abortion pills through virtual platforms. At the same time, the organization has closed dozens of physical clinics in recent years.
Despite the rising abortion totals, Planned Parenthood maintains that abortion accounts for only 4% of its services—a figure disputed by pro-life researchers, who argue the calculation method understates the central role abortion plays within its operations.
Kristan Hawkins of Students for Life of America said the report should prompt stronger legislative action.
“The ‘cuts’ aren’t working,” Hawkins said. “Planned Parenthood just admitted they carried out an all-time high number of abortions.”
From a pro-life Christian perspective, the report reinforces longstanding concerns about the sanctity of life in America. Many believers point to Scripture, which declares that each person is “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139), as a foundation for defending the unborn.
Advocates continue to urge support for alternatives such as federally qualified health centers and pregnancy resource centers, which offer care to women and families without ending the lives of unborn children.
